21 Favourite Books from my Childhood
I am a huge nerd for children’s books. I still collect some of my favourite ones today – especially the ones in vintage hardcover. I read everything I could get my hands on as a kid and I find that is still true today.
I was/still am obsessed with everything Goosebumps. This series is what really got me into reading as a kid. I still collect some Goosebumps “antiques” today.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
I used to borrow these from my school library and read them all the time!! The photos really creeped me out.
I don’t know how popular these books were, but after Goosebumps I couldn’t get enough horror. This tomboy girl’s sister is dating a werewolf. She would sneak out at night and have adventures – this was goals for me at 10.
My Teacher is an Alien
CLASSIC middle grade book. I’m pretty sure some of my teachers were aliens too…
I don’t care what anyone says, I love this series. I know it’s not *literature* but I loved reading about opposite sisters coming together.
Love this book. Love Neil Gaiman. Love everything about it. The original cover used to really freak me out as a kid.
Where the Sidewalk Ends
Listen to the Musn’ts
Where the Sidewalk Ends
The Giving Tree
My heart still cries about this book.
A Light in the Attic
How Many, How Much
Put Something In
Rock n’ Roll Band
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
I am still obsessed with Alice in Wonderland to this day. Over the years it just has more and more meaning.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
This is another book that has gained more meaning over the years after reading about all of the theories interpreting its true meaning.
Vulture posted a interesting article about it here
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Really digging all of the different movie adaptations that have come out since the book was published. This might be an unpopular opinion but I still heart the Tim Burton version.
A Wrinkle in Time
Me and my friends definitely had to look up the 5th dimension after reading this.
Winnie the Pooh
Love everything Winnie the Pooh. He’s literally an angel.
Gordon Korman books were really popular when I was in school. Climbing Everest? Heck ya I’m in.
Just look at the DRAMA on the cover of this book.
On the Run
When I was younger I really wanted my life to be as adventurous as the characters in Gordan Korman’s books.
Choose Your Own Adventure
These books gave me life as a child. When Goosebumps came out with their own version I almost died.
Magic Tree House
Love love love this series! This was my dream as a kid – every book had such a great adventure. Much more exciting than my small town.
Eye Witness books were great. They were sneaking in education, but mostly I looked at the pictures. Egypt was my favourite!! I still hope to go there one day.
